Ballati Tutti Quanti – Pizzica, traditional sounds from Basso Salento (Southern Italy)

Speciality

Officially founded in 1998, Ballati Tutti Quanti is the artistic project of the Rizzello brothers, Alessandro, Carlo, and Luca. Born and raised in Basso Salento (in Spongano, a small town in the province of Lecce), the three musicians grew up in a family where memories of traditional sounds were never set aside: not in their father Antonio’s compositional interpretations (who, in the mid-80s, released “Sapore d’Antico, Capriccio Folkloristico Salentino”), nor in the recollections of their grandmother Pippina Guida (a historical memory one of the most popular voice of Salento who passed away in 2017), or their uncles members of the popular group Menamenamò from Spongano. Ballati tutti quanti interprets the ancient culture of dance and music of Salento and of Rizzello’s family.

Ballati Tutti Quanti have played on stages across Italy and Europe and have collaborated with the most established Salento music companies.

The group recorded the CD “Pizzica-pizzica” in 1999 and, in 2005, “Ttacca banda”, a collection of songs and pizzica from their land, passed down directly from their grandmother Pippina. In 2012, they released “Zunfunìe” (literally “Symphonies”), and in 2017, “Quannu quannu va cusì” (the latter also available in video on YouTube), discographic works including songs recorded in the studio by Ballati Tutti Quanti, home recordings in direct take, and impromptu performances with some members of the large Rizzello family.

On the occasion of the Gran Bal Trad 2023, the three brothers will perform with their father Antonio.
