Bifólc Trio – Bal folk
Bifólc Trio is a group of musicians who are drawn to popular and traditional culture, as well as a good glass of wine (preferably red), especially when in a bistro with friends, playing music and telling stories. After a long and fruitful journey with the Bandabrisca group (founded with Bernardo Beisso in 1995, with over 500 concerts and dances in Italy and Europe), in December 2006 Gianluca Cavallotto and Stefano Guagnini establish Bifòlc. In 2019, they started collaborating with Alberto, a popular musician from the Bergamo area, who further enriched their repertoire by introducing new instruments or adding instruments and voices to their already well-established arrangements.
Their repertoire consists of a mix of music and songs that invite listeners to dance or listen, ranging from their native Piedmont, to the Occitan regions of Italy and France, and all the way to the French regions of Poitou, Vendée, and Brittany.
Since 2007, the group has played over 300 concerts and dances in Italy and Europe (Germany, Switzerland, Spain, France, Belgium) and has participated in the most important traditional dance music festivals in France (Gennetines, Saint Gervais, Damada) and Italy (Gran Bal Trad di Vialfré, Venezia Balla, Budrio Folk, Capodanze/Zingaria, Suisio Isola Folk, Ande Bali e Canti, Etétrad, Sponde Sonore). Bifòlc has also led dozens of dance workshops (Breton, Gascon, Auvergne, Occitan of Italy, Provençal) collaborating with Italian and French traditional dance masters. They also collaborate with Vincenzo Chacho Marchelli, one of the greatest living interpreters of popular singing in Piedmont and the Western Alps, to animate festivals, questue, or events based on traditional singing. Since 2018, they have been organizing the Biofòlc festival, in collaboration with the Coop. Agricola Biologica Valli Unite (C. Vescovato – AL).
In 2012, they released their first CD, “Bal Fòlc,” which contains a significant selection of dances and songs from Gascony in the Occitan language. A second CD is in preparation focused on a selection of Breton dances, with the participation of other musician friends they have met during their now twenty-year musical journey.
