The 2024 edition of Gran Bal Trad will take place in Vialfrè, from Monday July 8 to Saturday July 13!

The magical wood of Vialfrè is a precious environment which gives strength and inspiration to our Festival and makes it unique and very nice.
It is an ecosystem, as rich as it is delicate, which, along with us dancers and musicians, also hosts a lot of flora and fauna that must be preserved.
The organization of the Festival is attentive to these aspects (as you all are, we know) for which together with the Metropolitan City of Turin and the Municipality of Vialfrè we try, year after year, to make the experience of the Festival better and less impact on the territory.

The new date

The gradual shift of the date of the Festival, from the last of June to the first of July, and now to the second week of July, is part of a virtuous journey, undertaken in collaboration with the Metropolitan City of Turin, to maintain the Festival as far removed as possible from the birth period of bats and other species. Indeed, for some time now, monitoring of the flora and fauna and a cataloging of trees suitable for accommodating the nests of wood dwellers have been underway. This data is useful for understanding how and when to coexist with all species, without harming anyone.

Other measures

As you may have noticed this year, the total brightness of the Festival has decreased and will continue to decrease. Fewer lights and warmer lights: the inhabitants of the woods like that and, basically, it all creates a very nice atmosphere!
Next year, the shuttle service will also be intensified which will take you directly from the center of Vialfrè to the Festival area, which many of you have had the opportunity to appreciate.
Finally, a maximum limit of participants will also be set for next year, reached at which online registrations will be closed.
And there will also be other new features!

An amazing programme!

As you may have noticed, this year at the Gran Bal Trad there are many new entries! For the first time at the Festival: Duo Artense, Duo Vargoz, Rèmy Geffroy, Nòu, Toppette!!, Tre Martelli, Tirami su, Telefon duo, Orchestrina Trama, Man Encantada, Tribot, Titoun Gouttier in duo with Clement Le Goff!

And then great returns: Controcanto, Le Matrioske, Ballati Tutti Quanti, Arbadetorn, Gerard Godon, Bilaka, along with many other artists, always of the highest calibre!

Singing Around the Table

Once again this year, the Sing Around the Table could not be missing! As is now tradition, for the Piedmontese repertoire, Chacho Marchelli will be there! In addition, Orquestrina Trama, with her songs, will accompany you on a journey through their land. Together with the voices of Núria, Liv and Ivan Caro, you will breathe in the atmosphere of the Catalan Pyrenees!

Let's reduce the number of cars

The Festival is in a natural area of great beauty. Let’s protect it by getting as few cars as possible to Vialfrè. On Monday 3 and Sunday 9 July (opening and closing days of the Festival), a shuttle service will be available from Ivrea (railway station) to Vialfrè and vice versa. In addition, on the Facebook group “Gran Bal Trad di Vialfrè! ” car pooling will be organised to fill cars! There is also a free interchange service from the Vialfrè car park to the Festival area.

Erbaluce vine of the year!

This year Erbaluce, whose vines are characteristic of the Festival area, is vine of the year! And within the Festival area there will be the pagoda of Tenuta Roletto, a historic local producer, where it will be possible to taste the products of our lands.

Camping at Gran Bal Trad

At Vialfrè it is nice to camp under the cool branches… and this year the camping area has been reorganised so that everyone can enjoy the shade and coolness of the forest. We would like to remind you that it is strictly forbidden to light fires, including stoves, in the entire forest area.

The wood of luthiers!

A large part of the Vialfré nature area will be set aside to host the fascinating world of violin making. Bagpipes, accordions, violins, hurdy-gurdies, fifes, flutes, mandolins, guitars… will be exhibited by master lute-makers from the main Italian schools.

Project PIPELINK!

Daniele Bicego will be present at this year’s Festival with the project ‘PipeLink – a journey through bagged instruments in Europe’. An exhibition and a conference to explore the evolution of an instrument that is as simple as it is fascinating.

Tre Martelli

For the first time at the Gran Bal Trad the Tre Martelli! A historic group committed to the study, documentation and dissemination of Piedmontese popular culture. The accuracy of the research, the attention paid to the study of the various popular styles and the maturity of the repropositional and creative phase have generated international esteem around the group. Come and hear them in Vialfrè.

Gran Bal Trad is also the Youth Festival!

In fact, admission is free up to the age of 15, and up to the age of 24 there is a reduction of 50%!!!

We also remind you that all those, young and old, who register online, until June 18, will be able to take advantage of a discount of up to 25% on participation in the Festival!

Children's entertainment

Free service provided during the hours of the ateliers and reserved for children from 3 years old, with entertainment, games, dances and activities. In addition, a “sleeping” area is provided for the little ones: a closed structure is made available where parents can let their children sleep and manage the surveillance shifts themselves.

Musical entertainment for children

Brigata Corsara and Marco Volpatto will propose a musical workshop exclusively dedicated to children. During the workshop we work alternating moments with single instrumental groups at the same time (flute, violin, guitar, percussion) with moments of orchestral ensemble. The workshop is free!
